if I ever get really rich I would build a really well stocked bunker below my house with years of food supply. it would have stuff like guns, life rafts, stakes (for vampires), steaks (for eating), a speedboat, a helicopter, etc.

I remember seeing an article a while back that I haven't been able to put my hands on again about some middle class guy in the northwest somewhere who started building a bunker under his house in the middle of a suburban neighborhood. He spent years on it and just built it as he got the money. It wound up being several stories deep with some amazing technology inside: ventilation systems, storage systems, methods for sealing off sections in case his not-so-friendly, post-apocalyptic neighbors tried to storm the place and steal his provisions. It was pretty amazing. Wish I could find the article again.

I think Sentry, a leading maker of the small safes, now has a watertight model for floods. Apparently a normal fire safe is not water tight, and flood damage (hurricanes) or even a really really really good soaking from a firehouse during a house fire can still ruin your valuables.
A small safe is a good investment if you hide it well and bolt it down. Sure, no safe is uncrackable, but most small-timer crooks don't want to hang around long.
