Just my humble thoughts.

FWIW, there was a point in life when I have "decided" to settle with one shirt, one shoe, one tailor, one whiskey, one cook ware, one composer, even one video format for my movies.

You clearly do not know who you are dealing with here, Naturlaut.

First of all, you should still use trees when traveling.

Second of all, the day system still works. You just skip the shoes, going on to the correct day, which gives them even more rest from wearing.

You could also name your shoes using a mnemonic. E.g., you can name one pair Anne Hathaway, and slip your feet into them from behind. You can name another pair Cameron Diaz, and then bind them tightly after putting your footsies in. And so on.

Yes, but I won't bring all of my shoes, and I may have to rotate between the ones I packed. The days will get all mixed up.

This will lead to uneven wear. Duh.

This is an impulse, but it's not the impulsive reaction to a new toy. Mafoo's compulsions are deeper.

Mafoo, Bill's suggestion is good. Go with the trees. Or, line them up on a shelf facing out. As you wear them and put them back, return them to the shelf face-in, moving from left to right. When you get to the end, start again, flipping them as you go.

Now, that's helpful. Thank you.

How about having cloth like name tags sewn onto the inside of the tongues

Glad to be of service.

But in this case, you realize, they won't all be facing the same way in the closet. Can you handle that?

That strikes me as a bit anal.

Well, I didn't say the idea didn't need some tweaking.
