I thought I felt a tremor in the force.

What the hell happened to our Belgian shoe compact?

I already said why: in the interest of stirring community dialogue. I'm way beyond deciding whether to go ahead with the idea. At the moment, I'm trying to figure out a system to help me remember which pair to wear next. I might number the shoes, but I'd rather not mark them. Laminated paper placeholders seem like the best option.

I support this plan. On the one hand, it makes you seem more "normal," as most people do not own a huge collection of different styles of shoes. At the same time, it shows that you are a true style icon - you know what you like and you stick to your guns. Ultimately, I believe that there is one, single, perfect shoe - a sort of Platonic ideal of "shoe" - and, if we can get a decent approximation of that ideal, there is no need to diverge from it.

Mark the trees, dumbass. Monday. Tuesday. Wednesday...then comes....Thursday. Friday. Saturday. Sunday.

Hmm. I question the stylistic significance of variety. A lot of style icons seem to have their own way of doing things -- over and over again. Anyway, let's assume you're right, and you need variety to achieve 100 out of 100 style points; I'd be perfectly happy scoring a solid and consistent 85.

I am not underestimating you at all. In fact, I believe that all of us had entertain that thought at least once when we first received something that we really love, especially when we were at your age and started doing this. As in connoisseurs of every art form, one's taste changes as one grows deeper into it. As of this moment, I don't think we (or at least I) have yet studied and versed in this artform well enough to have arrived into a conclusion and definition: this is not the point in your life to declare and conclude anything. Just my humble thoughts.

FWIW, there was a point in life when I have "decided" to settle with one shirt, one shoe, one tailor, one whiskey, one cook ware, one composer, even one video format for my movies.

Hey, its your choice to live here rather than among the constant ribbing of your brothers. So you have already voted with your (webbed) feet.

Relax, Obi Wan. I'd still like something to wear around the apartment

Just use a sharpie on the soles.

Horrifying, isn't it? In fact, I just walked back from the wall to wall shoe closet to calm the fears of the many pairs of innocent shoes, some of whom had heard rumors of this one-shoe concept.
