I don't like early weezer. Also, Beirut. I love, love, love NMH. Beirut is their critically lauded "successor" but I just can't get into it. Most of it is too damn depressing. I love a few of the singleish songs, like Elephant Gun, but other than that

Also, Muse. The fact that their lead singer is a classically trained, and very good pianist, as well as a very, very good guitarist makes me heart them. However, I just can't get into much beyond Knights of Cydonia, and Starlight (which I love). Supermassive Black Hole just confuses me. As for things others have listed- I like Okkervil River, as well as the Arcade Fire.

I really don't get the Beirut/NMH comparison. Oh look, both have weird instrumentation! They must be the same!

I agree with this, although I rarely find myself in this mood, and if I ever do, it usually doesn't last very long (with the exception of BOC, who get heavy play in my iTunes)

Opera. I feel like I should like it, but I just don't.

Joy Division. The origin of my favorite band, but I can only take it once a decade or so.

Sorry man, I think everything since OK Computer has been a reaction by the band to being popular. Just my opinion.

I hear and read all these great reviews about the Arcade Fire but I just can't stand them. Also the Arctic Monkeys.

From my experiences with Arctic Monkeys their albums go downhill after about the first 5 tracks.
