How about Ralph Lifshitz (aka Ralph Lauren)?

I have lived with a nickname since I was 2 months old. Given name is William (a Jr. after my father), but when he returned from the Vietnam war shortly after my birth, he started calling me "Spiffy." Luckily, the "y" was dropped before entering school. I have been known as Spiff pretty much all my life. I tell people who ask that I learned to fight young... but actually, never had a problem with it.

* Edited to add a disclaimer: I see that there is a "mt_spiffy" member here... no relation, and no one other than my wife mounts me...

We met this guy, sort of a new-agey LA type film director who had named his young son Towaddy (sp?).

I asked a few times to get it right and he was very firm about telling me it means "Screaming Eagle" or something in Native American.

My wife has been cracking up about it ever since. She says "I don't care what it means, you named your son Twatty."

They don't speak English in Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or Belize?
