Obvious the Thom Browne look is not for everyone. Socal, I believe, has the perfect physique to pull it off. It may not look classic, but looks good nontheless. The typical person with a little gut, short legs will not look good with the short pants.

Perhaps the over-strenuous objections to this look lies in a subconscious jealousy of those who do not have the good body shapes to pull it off?

Perhaps the tendency to poorly pseudo-psychoanalyze stems from a need to want to be perceived as intelligent when one has nothing of note to say.

I think Socal and TB look great. I dont think they care if you guys think their pants are cropped too short. Thats the whole point. Its more of a rebel attitude. TB thinks the real rebels wear suits today and they were them a bit differently. And he doesnt give a **** about celebrities. Hes not going to supply them with free clothing like all the other designers. Notice how hes breaking all the rules. Its not like hes doing it by mistake..hes doing it on purpose.

And if all the hipster fashion kids in new york city could play along (by being able to afford the damn stuff) it would catch on in no time....

Hipster kids can play along, it's easy enough to find vintage 60s suits that are the ones TB fashioned his own after for cheap prices. Then take it to a tailor and ask for 26" inseams. But they don't.

You're right about one thing - he is doing it all on purpose. What he sure as hell isn't doing is "breaking all the rules." He's got his marketing down pat. TB's convincing people with more money than sense that they look like "rebels" wearing his $5,000 suits is what's pure genius. Not that it hasn't been done before. Bohemian hobo chic was all the rage in women's fashion a few years ago. I'm sure they all thought that they were "rebels" who were "breaking all the rules" too. The sardonic part of the whole thing, of course, is that in buying into that laughable sales pitch, they're really just blindly conforming to the latest trend. "Rebel" style my foot.

For all we know, SoCal might just be wearing these trousers for posting on SF

I know I'd be too chickenshit to wear pants that high out in public. I demand street shots a la Sartorialist to confirm whether or not these trousers are being worn outside your residence!

But dont trends in their early phases start out as a rebelious act? Its a way to be different then everyone else..well until it catches on to everyone and becomes a trend. I dont think its a trend just yet. Not everyone is doing it. It might never reach that point..but who knows...

But if you dont want to play along with TB, you can still buy his great looking suits and just crop the pants longer...its not that hard

as the driving force of his own brand, Thom Browne (the man) could be considered "rebellious/breaking the rules" but those who follow his mantra are def not, nor are they necessarily trying to be.

I don't see anything wrong with indulging in trends to see what the hububs about, esp if you're young (as SoCal is). Usually, the road to developing a unique sartorial voice involves the occasional engagement of trends as well as understanding of classic guidelines and taking the bits that you like which represent *you*.

Yes I spent this money to just impress you. In the What Are You Wearing thread there was a user who saw me on the way to work on the subway platform.
