People with pictures of themselves in their Avatar?

I do not understand why anyone (except maybe Tom Ford) would post a picture of themselves in their avatar.

I can only assume that they:
1.\tHave a great sense of humor and find the picture in question to be hilarious
2.\tSomehow think that the picture in question is the epitome of style
3.\tAre a duche

I understand pictures of movie stars, pictures of hot women, pictures of your kids/dog, I even understand pictures of your car (as I am a car guy and belong to various car forums).

Anyone with any insight of the psychological process one goes through ones head in order to make this decision?

I used to see a girl that thought she was so hot: she had pictures of herself on her desktop, on her desk, on her cell phone wallpaper etc. I guess it reminds me of that and I am trying to understand it.

Do people really need to account to you for personal choice in this matter?

I realize I am running the risk of stating the obvious here, but I guess the intent is to have the forum more closely replicate a real-life conversation. Putting a face to a name, so to speak. I don't think it's narcissistic at all.

I did not even think of that. I guess because all of the personal ones I have seen, the person is obviously dressed up and trying to show off what they are wearing. I guess if the person was at the beach with his kids or something, I would think that--but it is usually a very obvious pose.

You mean to tell me that someone is dressed up and trying to show off what they are wearing on Styleforum? That's outrageous and we shouldn't stand for it, they should take that nonsense back to the UFC forums where people genuinely care about men's clothing. We wouldn't people to think that we might have an interest in clothing and how we look in it.
