I've been going to HoS for a few years now. It's newly cleaned up and the staff/atmosphere has taken it up a notch. The "new" clientele is more cleaned up as well. It can be very crowded after 5pm as it's a pretty small space, especially Fridays. I was shocked at how crowded it is now.
A few years ago it was staffed by Mission hipster types with loud indie rock and metal playing. Patrons were basically the same. Everyone was really nice and laid back.
It's different now but it's still one of my all time favorite places to go.

I'm tentatively in for this although I humbly admit I'm small timer compared to most of you guys! Looking forward to this.

^^Depends. Will I have to converse with the locals or can I just glare at everyone?

Natives, transplants, indentured servants of silicon valley - up to and including the pilot who brought me here and announced, "Well folks, we're now beginning our descent into San Francisco my favourite city in the world!

Notice his use of the word "descent".

My wife said she could hear a blood vessel burst in my head.

Very cool. It is a touching backstory. In case you aren't aware of it do a search for "operation paprika" you will be glad you did.
