I think you should combine, the Borelli, the pocketsock, and the shorts. I don't think you have anything to lose.

It's too cold for shorts, and SF would just say that I put it on for the photo and didn't wear it out.

You obviously take your clothing seriously enough to stuff something in your breast pocket for decoration's sake. The real problem is not taking something seriously, but looking like you take something serious while doing a poor job of it.
Matt, adjust your monitor. The stripe is a medium gray, which plays with the gray tie and jacket. That you think it's black is making me worried your color judgments are off.

That doesn't make it any better. Grey in jacket + grey in tie + grey in square = success? The outfit outside of the square is very monotonous, lacking contrast. The square is on the complete opposite of the spectrum and is concentrated in a very small area. Thus, there's no harmony or balance to the overall outfit.

If the answer to this is no, then most posters in WAYWT, including the "big boys" all suck.

Exactly. Wearing one demonstrates effort and intention. So, if you're going to wear one, it better be decent. An electric blue sock is, unsurprisingly, less than decent.
