All I have to say about the end of "The Wire" is shiiiiiiiiiiiit (as Clay Davis would put it).

I haven't owned a TV in seven years, it just wasn't worth it for me. I occasionally watch at GF's houses, but that's it. After much prodding, I borrowed a friends set of The Wire dvds and watched them on my laptop. I just finished on Wednesday night. The show actually had a significant impact upon me. An amazing series, I loved the complexity and great character development.

but ranking them doesn't matter since season 2 was better than any other show out there

Pretty accurate. Maybe I would switch Season 4 and 1, but that's nitpicking. Is it possible The Wire can be resurrected like Family Guy? Placed in a better time slot? They can explore the health care system. Teen pregnancy. Explore more of the court system. The prison system. So much more material they could have used.

It's funny, I was discussing the show today with a friend and we agreed that the peripheral character of Jay Landsman (the fat sergeant) had more complexity, more depth than Ross Geller had on Friends after 200 episodes. Pretty crazy.
Landsman was actually one of my favorite characters - I loved the literary bent he flashed. FWIW, the real Jay Landsman plays the Italian deputy on the show.

I think the show ended pretty much on Simon and company's terms, actually. I know Simon and Burns said they were interested in exploring the growing Latino immigrant population in Baltimore, but that neither of them felt like they knew and understood that culture and community well enough to bring the same kind of authenticity to it that they brought to the rest of the show.

If you haven't, you should check out Generation Kill--Simon and Burns did that, too, and it's phenomenal. And, of course, they're going to be doing a series focused on musicians and the music community in New Orleans post-Katrina. From almost anyone else, I'd think of that as a disaster waiting to happen, but if anyone can do that well, it's them.

You can deal with your withdrawal by watching "The Punisher," the new "90210" on the CW, old Arby's commercials, and other quality entertainment put out by cast members after the show.

Eeesh.

Also, the guy who plays Klebanow in season 5 is Mel's husband in "Flight of the Conchords."

I've determined that Clay Davis does the best "sheeeeeeeeeeit!" Bunk's is a close second.

Really, Clay Davis is the best at his signature line? You think so, professor?
