I was simply making a distinction between the Europeans and the Americans. And besides, let's face it, there is snobbery present among European designers in regards to the Americans. Europeans traditionally regarded the Americans as only RTW and sportswear. The French even used to draw lines against Italian fashion.

And Lagerfeld isn't really Old Guard, is he? He is simply of the same generation as YSL, but different in ethos and philosophy. However, like YSL and Givenchy, Lagerfeld is a customer of the bespoke shirts made by the Paris branch of Hilditch & Key.

Have you read The Beautiful Fall, LK?

I think it's as much Old Guard as we are about to get at this point. I did forget Hubert de Givenchy. I believe YSL used to get his suits at Caraceni.

Hmm, thanks for the unintentional book recommendation, RJ.

Unintentional?

Anyway, thank the Dutch art huckster Duveen.

I've not read the Fall book. It seems slightly gossipy.

You'd like it.

On second thought no, not unintentional.

A unique man that set the standards. His influence was far, he will be missed by many including us.

Regards.

It is sad to hear. His own personal style was quite appealing.

Did Yves Saint Laurent himself design a high-end men's line? The vintage men's stuff does not seem quite on the level of the women's or the current YSL Rive Gauche.
