Your Greatest Movie of all time?

If you insist on naming two Roland Emmerich movies among the "top [7] of all time," couldn't they at least be Independence Day and Stargate? The only thing I remember from Evolution was this scene:

These are movies that touch an emotional Chord with your heart and mind. I have seen all of the above at least five times or more.

Two great classic musicals in there. Have you seen West Side Story, Oliver!, My Fair Lady, Mary Poppins, and/or On The Town?

It would have to be anything by Sergio Leone, first. Ennio Morricone created some of the best movie soundtracks ever also. Leone was smart to use him. Man With No Name trilogy, Once Upon a Time in America/West, Nuovo Cinema Paradiso... great stuff.

I also love all the Wes Anderson movies.

And yes, Citizen Kane is one of my favorites. I hated it the first time I watched it... but after watching it again and again... it is really something else.

Anything with directed by or staring Clint Eastwood... Unforgiven and Gran Torino are great. High Plains Drifter is also good.

I've seen Ten Commandments and The Sound of Music a million times as a kid, so those are on the list. I've also seen Brother Sun, Sister Moon far too many times. It is really kinda lame, but it has to be on my list.

Sappy movies include The Notebook (I cry nearly everytime I watch it at the end) Atonement and Amelie.

Other movies that are great are: Groundhog Day, 2001, Lawrence of Arabia, Cast Away, Airplane, Some Like It Hot, Bad Santa, Slingblade, Shawshank, Great Expectations (the 1946 one), The Wizard of Oz, Casino, V for Vendetta, Rambo: First Blood (as a commentary on post-Vietnam war), Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany's and A Night at the Roxbury.

Good movie. It doesn't have the best plot and has some holes, but the first time he plays Beethoven 9 played on that record is really a great moment.

There's another that reminds me of Equilibrium and that's Cypher. It has a TON of plot holes, but is pretty good if you don't look too deep into it.

Just recently watched the Before Sunrise/Sunset movies. Quite enjoyed it and hope there will be a third movie somewhere down the line.

It's essentially 80 minutes of dialogue but is quite enjoyable and reminds of the movie "The Man From Earth."

I usually dig the last movie i made it to the end, which was Diner, so good.

overall, anything by Paul Thomas Anderson, Terrance Malick, or the Coen Bros.

There will be blood, Boogie Nights, Miller's Crossing, Fargo, Punch Drunk Love, Hard Eight

and a couple of David Lynch films were great.

lately The town, and The Social Network, Inception, I've remembered.

oh and Knocked Up.

Dark Night is probably the movie I've watched the most times, and it never gets old.

I liked Sunset a tad more than Sunrise. And I don't think they could make a third movie without ruining the value of the ambiguity in second.

Spartan by David Mamet.

I can think of films that I think are better than Spartan (Badlands, Stalker, Vanishing Point, Le Cercle Rouge, Winter Light, Tokyo Story etc), but none that I have enjoyed watching as much. For a strange little spy thriller, it's really rather amazing.
