just got my wolverines in from nordstroms. waiting on my reno before i start wearing them.

Why are you waiting on reno before wearing? Lace those bad boys up and wear them. New CXL leather doesn't really need any conditioning before wearing. I'd hold of on conditioning until they look and feel a little dry.

Have contacted a couple of cobblers in philly and they wanted 45 and over for half sole.. wth.. I think I might order supplies online and get some glue from home depot and give a DIY try!

I just recently tried a DIY with the Vibram "Dress" half-soles. I would not recommend it. The sole of your boot is slightly curved, which makes getting the entire half-sole to stick while the glue is still wet very difficult. I tried with rubber cement twice, according to the video tutorial on HalfSoles.com, and it kept peeling at the ends. I took it to a shoe repair place instead and just got it back today. They did a far better job than I possibly could have. It looks like they scrapped off a thin layer of the leather sole, in order to make the soles more adhesive. (Since a new sole is going to be very slick). Which is not something I could have done myself. The half sole is perfectly flushed. The Dress sole is only a few MM, and so it's hardly noticeable.

Yeah once I got my boots in and saw the curved soles I was skeptical about doing the DIY. Ill prob just go to a cobbler

Im torn on whether to use Hdlp or reno. Have a jar of lp and leather honey which I used my all of my redwings. But I want to change things up and use just reno to give some ptotection and moisture before I wear them.

When I received the boots they had a little bit of a ploom. Light coating of a powder of some sort, that I just brushed off. Other then that, the leather didnt feel dry. Thats pretty much why I want to reno them hefore. Has anyone had their boots with patches of loght powder coating?

I normaly wear UK7 in most shoes and boots, should I get a US7 in the wolverine 1000 mile? I know i have to 1/2 size down. In the past UK7 was equivalent to US7.5, for some reason now a days UK7 is equivalent to US8 in most charts.

US is often 1 size larger than UK, and that is my observation regardin the 1k as well.

1st attempt at a topy DIY! didnt do a good job, but we will see how long it last and depending on the outcome maybe ill do it again or take to a cobbler.

Brand new boots! had some dust/powder but i think its saw dust

vibram raptors from halfsoles.com purchased 2 diff half soles and matching half heels. the other will be used for a pair of dress shoes but i want to wait and see how these do before i give it a try again. might take them to a cobbler to have them attached if these dont last long.

cleaned the sole and scoured a checker pattern for the glue to better adhere

tools needed. utility knife, glue, hook blade, rope. couldnt find the barge original so i tried this glue. was only $5

cutting the sides off is def the hardest, especially the 1st boot. but i did a far better job on the other boot

roped them up tighty with a cloth on top so i wouldnt get rope marks on the leather.

finished product.. if the only last a couple of months ill take them to the cobbler
wore them for about 3 hrs today and were super comfortable and great looking. the half sole did well too, didnt move or show any gaps

For those of you who applied Sno-Seal to your boots and used the oven to pre-heat them as per Crane's instructions, how long did you leave them in the oven, and did you leave the oven door open as they heated to prevent any sort of excessive heat buildup?

I never said nor would recommend heating up a pair of boots in an oven. Use a hair dryer.

That's the conclusion I came to. I just purchased some Krause in black and put the half soles on them before I took them outside. I will post some pics soon. I love these boots. Plus work gives me up to a $375 allowance for boots/clothing and I was able to secure these for $366 through Opentip, so free to me. Now I need to hit them with some AE aqua creme.
