Why does everyone in NYC wear dark or black coats

I was in NYC for a visit and it seems so depressing there. It's totally different from San Francisco.
Where's the color?

NyC>San Francisco. Just look at the members where. You probably have Norcal in the West and basically ten of the best dressed members in America somewhere in the East.

They live in a cold, congested, dirty, urban hell. It's a giant pyramid scheme of people convincing each other it's the greatest city in the world. Wearing black comes naturally. It reinforces uniformity with the anonymous horde.

1) It doesn't show the dirt as well, considering NYC is filthy this is very practical.
2) NYC has a poor sense of style.
