Well, in the summer you can wear linen ties, linen/silk blends, shantungs, and tussahs. I also wear un-lined/-tipped, woven-silk ties in the summer: basketweaves, fine grenadines, honeycomb grenadines. I normally wear printed silk neats in summer colours with businesswear. None of these are particularly shiny if you buy good quality. I buy from Drake's, Cappelli, Marinella, and recently I've ordered several ties from Vanda. I can highly recommend all of those "brands".

Maybe others will weigh in and correct me, but I think you would benefit from more casual, countrified shoes - derbies with some brogueing. The jacket and pants say country to me, the oxfords have a fairly elongated last, and cry out for a suit.

I feel like without the scarf this would lose a lot in terms of color/texture/pattern - any advice on how I could take it up a level without the scarf involved would be appreciated.

probably not a bad idea, but i particularly like the color of the shoe with the fit. might try with suede brouges next time.

The shirt is out of place with the coat and tie. You've got enough going on with the tie and jacket, keep it simple with the shirt - solid light blue (or even pink) poplin or chambray.

or oxford cloth.

Question:

London in March.
Mid Grey okay?
If yes, if with pink shirt and black tie, chestnut shoes okay?
Or stick to charcoal and black shoes?

Lose the scarf. To me it's a Euro(trash) affectation sort of like the man purse but without any practicality. Wear a patterned tie instead. A wool or cashmere would provide pattern as well as texture.

Mid grey is ok any time of year in my book, pink shirt excellent, black tie only if you're at a funeral. Black shoes whatever the case.

It is nonsense to say it is impractical: in England our winters are rarely severe, but we have months and months of slightly chilly weather. Sort of temperatures where you'd sweat buckets in overcoat etc getting round London, but it's still a little bit nippy if you're just in a suit or odd jacket. A scarf does the trick. It gets ridiculous, granted, when you see men in t-shirst, no socks, and a massive scarf, but that's no to say every single instance must therefore be affected.

Not every single instance is affected. But when a trend is underway in which the scarf is an accessory for those whose dress you describe above, you might not wish to be identified with them and their poor taste. As for chilly weather, an unlined raincoat works.
