White monk strap shoes. Wearable? (picture)

I read the thread discussing white shoes and agree with the consensus that they can be worn with light colored pants in a summer setting. However, most of the discussion seemed to be directed at bucks or wingtips... not these slip-on, 70's style, monk strap, gold buckle beasts. I am a fan of 70's style, and incorporating into my outfits without having it dominate an outfit, but do these shoes go too far? I was thinking of pairing them with the type of outfit mentioned in the other white shoe thread, light pants and a light shirt, but having a shirt with a slightly too big collar, or a jacket with slightly too big lappels to subtlety match the shoes stylistically. Would that work, or is there any other type outfit that could work with these shoes?
Thanks
-Charlie

My father had a pair of those.
He bought them specifically to go with his leisure suits.

Those shoes are too specifically 70's to be worn with anything other than a costume.

But they are a particularly sweet example of an era I fondly remember.

Welcome to Styleforum Charlie. The white monks you posted I would retire.
I would, however wear a pair of these in the summer...Allen Edmonds Mora in white

Damn, that's what I was afraid of. Can't say I'm surprised though, these things are pretty sleazy. Thank you for the advice though guys, I'll be keeping these bad-boys in my closet
