Attending a reception, nothing that formal but still want to look nice...

option 1: black suit, white shirt, red tie

option 2: grey suit with pinstripes, striped shirt with contrasted white collars, red tie

thanks

From the pics posted, 2 looks better. I would lose the contrast collar shirt though.

Would it look better with a white shirt then?

I just bought the contrast collar, and I'm thinking now I may never wear it, lol. It just seemed interesting when I got it along with the tie.

Both looks are very good and you look fine.

I guess the type of reception would matter.

If it's a formal type affair, I'd go with the black suit.

For a more casual affair, the gray suit would be a good choice.

+2 I think contrast collar shirts make guys look schmucky. Some guys can pull it off, certainly, but most can't.

I wouldn't call the tie in photo 1 "red". But maybe my computer is to blame. Actually, the suit looks more charcoal than black on my screen.

I think contrast colar can look great. Or not. Depends on who you are, and where you are, and in which context.

I have not one singe contrast collar shirt, but I may actually bespeak one, one of these days.

Number 2 FTW. Contrasted collar looks fine. Adds a lot to the overall look of the suit and tie. JMHO!

#2 - but I think the contrast color is too much "banker/businessman" for a reception. It works in the office and for business occasions, but I feel it may be a little bit out of place in a more relaxed social atmosphere.
