I venture from the Streetwear forum and after much seaching, I'm having a hard time finding an answer. I need to find some dress shirts that are on the affordable side ($75-80 or less) in Boston. I dug through Filene's Basement yesterday with little success; I'm specifically looking for an ecru/light brown dress shirt to fit with a slim H&M navy suit. The shirt would need to be a 16". I tried on a shirt at Brooks Brothers but it was rather puffy.

Any suggeestions on good quality, affordable shirts?

(1) Brooks brothers, their slim version.
On Sale now.

(2) Polo - custom fit.

If that is not slim enough... I guess you will have to get custom.

The slimmest RTW shirts available are from 'fashion' brands, for example Hugo Boss, which you can get for practically nothing (<$40) in Wrentham or FB.

Borelli shirts regularly turn up at FB, but they're by no means slim fitting. I find polo custom fit not to be slim enough. Altering an RTW shirt never works, so I think you're stuck with fashion brands at Wrentham or FB.

Unless you're willing to try Hemrajani, who comes to Boston every couple months. Their default style is actually pretty blousy, though slimmer than any RTW nice dress shirt (if you're a slim guy), so you'll have to emphasize that you want seriously slim. Once they nail your pattern, these are great shirts for the money ($50-$150 or so, sweet spot around $90).

Or, check out Drinkwater's in Cambridge. I've never done his MTM, but I plan to, and they've got nice fabrics starting around $100. He measures you, and your shirt is made by I think one of four makers (someone correct me if I'm wrong). This way you get to work with someone local who can evaluate the fit of your shirts and really get your measurements straight.

Yeah, talk to Gary at Drinkwater's - if he can't get you what you want I'm sure he'll point you in the right direction. He's on the forum as drink8648.
