What the hell is with people using calculators?

Who here still uses calculators at work? I probably need one a few times a day, so I use the one built into my OS. I can see real numbers people (small-time accountants) still using them occassionally because they need it so often and they're used to it (obviously standard calculators - people with technical careers may need technical calculators when they don't have access to their crazy software).

But I constantly (once or twice a week actually) have co-workers ask me if they can borrow a calculator. They don't seem to understand that their computer is a calculator. So they don't use one regularly enough to need a real one sitting on their desk, yet when they do need one, they go to find a real one rather than using a piece of software. What the **** is with that?

Maybe it's a generational thing but I find it easier, more ergonomic, faster... to use a calculator than a computer mouse or a keyboard.

I use a calculator daily. I use alot of computer programs and it's easier to do the quick arithmetic necessary for the inputs using a calculator that is next to me, than it would be to pull up the one on the computer.

About a year ago I was discussing budgets at work with the finance woman. She actually used an adding machine to show me what she was talking about. I just stood there speechless.

Yeah and what is with people and phonebooks? Who uses those anymore except for raising up cheap LCD monitors that don't come with height adjustment.

This. Though I probably still use the one on the computer more often when I'm at my desk.

Also, I'm a "real numbers person" (though not an accountant), which means I go to a lot of meetings where numbers are discussed. I don't always have a use for a computer at the meetings, so it's better for me to have a calculator.

this guy at works brigns this old ass funny loking accountants calculator EVERYWHERE. I still use a standard one when doing basic work calculations. Do you realize how annoying it is to find in my menu and use my mouse to use the calculator on windows? Lame...
