The Trainspotting post up-thread got me thinking about Kelly Macdonald. I revisited this today on Youtube. I have probably seen it 5 times.

The amazing Bill Nighy toils along as part of the senior UK finance/govt department. Kelly Macdonald(also amazing) is regular chica going about her biz. They meet in a cafe.

Bill's character is awkward. His job is his life. After the initial meeting, he gets up the courage to ask Kelly's character out to lunch. She is down.

Wait.....Bill is getting ready to head off to a conference in Iceland. Well, it's the G-8 conference where world matters are decided. He take another chance and asks Kelly if she would like to come. Pfft. Yup!

As Kelly learns about the decisions that are to be made at the G-8, she voices her opinion as she starts to fall for Bill. His boss, the solid Ken Stott, is not happy....either are his colleagues.

What does it take to possibly change the world? This is a love meets life story!

I remembered how much I liked this film when I first saw it after the TS post upthread. It didn't disappoint.

4/5.

There’s always suspension of belief but a girl dating a guy 30+ years older is stretching it unless he was rich as ****.

15 year old flick. He was 55 and she was almost 30.

This is one of those Comedy Central favorites that I've seen parts of, but never the whole thing. I think I saw the best parts (the car rental scene). It's at its best when Steve Martin completely loses his ****. The rest I can take or leave.

Jumanji the Next Level. Nowhere near as good as the previous movie. The Rock and Kevin Hart did a good job of playing old Devito and Glover but their characters came off as really stupid.

I was very surprised by how much I liked the first Jumanji remake, which I watched on a plane and found to be really really funny. (The scene where Jack Black demonstrates how to strut is hilarious.) Can’t say I have any interest in the sequel, looks kind of dumb tbh with the rock and hart playing two old men who don’t get video games.

Streaming on Amazon Prime. Not much to say about it other than it has forced me to revisit my “I will watch any heist movie” principle. Not worthwhile. Remarkable just how uncool Hayden Christensen is.
That movie was sublimely gawd-awful, terrible, a complete waste of time.

A solid 0.0/5.0

None of those "ter1413 vs lefty" 0.5 point discounts/debates on this one.

I get the impression that the people involved in the movie really enjoyed working together, so when the first one was unexpectedly profitable they decided it would be a good idea to turn it into a franchise. That way, they could keep working together and make truckloads of money. Unfortunately, I don't think there's enough to work with to make this an ongoing entity. It looked like a lot of this one was, "Hey, we'll roll cameras and you guys just do your thing. Don't worry, we'll make it work somehow." And in editing, they strung in some world building and story seeds so the writers have something to work with through Jumanji 9: Welcome To The Assisted Care Facility.

I enjoyed the 2nd one a lot.

Not as good as the first remake, but it managed to deliver a few unique turns and not to spoil it, but one of the bits that was getting really old (where you start to groan "are they going to keep doing this bit for the whole damn movie?") stops happening before the point where it drives you crazy.

Edit: and not to be that guy, but I'd watch anything with Karen Gillan and that outfit in it.

The Current Occupant.

It was a good Sunday film. Some good performances, interesting premise and pretty visuals. Oh and it was 90 minutes.

While I'm going to say it was like 3.5 or 4 out of five, like, I'm continuing to think about it. And great art (which I also don't really think this was) makes you think about it well after you've left it behind. So, yeah. Take that FWIW
