This is now my approach with sunglasses. I buy $20 sunglasses and I don't worry about messing them up like I did with $200+ ones. When the lenses get all beat up and scratched from tossing them around I buy new ones. I don't think of clothes that way though.

I also know that value is all subjective, buy what other qualities allow these makers to charge such a high premium?

What justified the 200$ flannel shirt is the fact that you have to buy the 300$ flannel pants to go with it since nothing else matches it.

Understood. Don't let the clothing wear you.

I personally buy $12 Wrangler flannels from Wal Mart and then tailor them myself. This way the next time the soccer mom driving an expedition pulls out in front of me and sends me flying off my motorbike, I won't be thinking as I slide down the street on my face, "Gee, there goes another $300 for a replacement Ironheart Super Heavyweight Winter Flannel..."

It was like when I had a newer car, all i could think about was the damn car... I never really enjoyed it because it felt 'too nice' for me. I was always worried something was going to happen to it. I was constantly paranoid the doors might get dings et cetera.

I don't know how to explain it any different than that.

There's no point in wearing things you're not comfortable in.

the way i could justify it is if i buy 1 flannel shirt a year but i couldn't spend that much if i was buying more than one a year.

a lot of people justify buying 1 pair of $200+ dry denim a year easily.

Sigh, why do people always come here asking questions that could easily be answered if they just did a bit of damn research and used their common sense.

Go read a book or something.

These threads are always so ******* dumb. Yes, its a personal choice to pay $200 for a Sugarcane or Iron Heart flannel vs a $10 one from Wal Mart, but to question that the $200 is actually 'better' is ******* marsupialed. This is the same stupid **** that flares up in Men's Clothing all the time: yes, the improvement over the two shirt isn't so drastic that purchasing the more expensive one will bag you a supermodel and a free sports car, but to fundamentally question that a difference between the two exists at all and ascribing them as simply different options of 'personal choice' is just plain wrong.

I'm sorry that you have some psychological issue with owning nice things robbie, but that has next to nothing to do with a comparision between the quality of two clearly different products. ****.

I have a few j crew flannels plus a flat head and iron head flannel. They are so different that you can't even compare them. I don't know if it's a $200 difference, but it's pretty drastic. I can see the flat head/iron head lasting way longer than the J Crew and the material/construction is just sick on them.

You can actually get a really nice flannel for less than $200. At the party I bought a great red flannel from Mauro (Shirt by Shirt is the label) for $86.50 which was 50% off the tag.

Does anyone else find it vastly ironic that the OP has 3000+ posts?
