What food is appropriate to bring to a cocktail party?

I wouldn't eat wings at a party. Too much of a liability - one slip and you look like an idiot for the rest of the night with a stain on your shirt. Something boneless seems like it would be best.

Kabosh the kabosh. Bring spiced nuts. People will eat them up and you'll get a slam-dunkey on your better half.

Get a loaf of focaccia bread and cut it into cubes. Add cubes of a very good hard cheese such as a parmesan (Parmigiano Reggiano). Finally, include an assortment of various olives that you can find at the specialty stores. Arrange it all in different piles on a large platter and provide a lot of tooth picks. Pretty easy to do and goes well with about everything that they will be drinking.

Thanks DMcG for the endorsement. I wanted to make something, not just assemble some store bought items. The loaf smells very cheesey, in a good way. Tastes great, too. Also, it was a very easy to assemble and bake. Thanks to everyone who gave an opinion or witty comment.

Cut the little triangles into smaller triangles, roll little smokies in 'em, and bake until golden brown. Awesome.
