I suppose partly for the crazy liquidation sale that's sure to follow, what brands/stores/chains would you like to see fold under the strain of all this economic woes?

I'll start:

Barneys: and I gonna grab me some Berluti's

Paul Stuart: for the sheer joy of seeing the forlorn look on the face of the sales associates

Jay Kos: no personal experience, but apparently quite snooty, and see above

Is Macy's too big to fail? It looks like it's going to go out of business.

Macy's is one that I DO NOT wish to see fail.

Who else then is going to sponsor the Thansgiving parade? Besides, there is nothing good to drool over in Macy's, even at the landmark 34th street store.

Abercrombie
Pottery Barn
Z Gallerie
Jos A Banks
Saks - they should just call it quits and get absorbed by Neiman
Nordstrom - I went from thinking this place was way too expensive to thinking it was garbage - the SF effect
Walmart - I get pissed off every time I go there. About once a year. I think "wow I went through 45 minutes of hell to save $2.00"

Why the hate for Paul Stuart? Aside from the annoying salespeople, I believe they stock some of the better menswear in NYC.

For those who I wish the axe:
1) Kohls: expensive for the crap they sell
2) Juicy Coulter
3) Abercrombie: too easy

If Macy's goes, so does Bloomingdales, which isn't quite high-end (almost). They really need figure out the niche of their stores, it's all over the place with Macy's and their class system A - F... A with lines like Hugo Boss and F being an outlet.

... and where does Lord and Taylor fit in? Does Federated still need this?

Federated just lacks the common sense to survive unless they make changes.

Kohl's? Are you kidding me? Most of their crap is inexpensive. I go there for towels and bath items. Everything is always 50-60% off (with the original prices not that unreasonable to begin with - although I would never pay their MSRP). Plus they have coupons that float around for added savings. I like Kohl's for the every day crap one needs (although nothing beats target and costco).
