I'm currently reading 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. I'm about 2/3 through and can't put it down! The plot so far is very imaginative and complex. Somehow, I can easily relate to the two protagonists (Tengo and Aomame). Occasionally, there are some very disturbing and explicit things happening.

Finally finished Hard-Boiled Wonderland And The End Of The World today. I enjoyed it a lot. On to The Great Gatsby.

Finsihed the Martin Beck series at last. Juggling my usual 4-5 books at a time, I'm now reading:

The Master of Us All, a biography of Christobal Balenciaga
Just Kids, Patti Smith's memoir of her time with Robart Mapplethorpe
The Book of Barely-Imagined Beings, an A-Z of unusual animals
Ready Player One, a new (to me) sci-fi novel
Open Door, an Argentinian novel about a woman whose lover disappears

Dan Simmonds Flashback a post GFC cyberpunk dystopian procedural noir adventure.

I am a fan of Dan Simmons recent works. Drood, the Terror, Flashback, Black Hills, fantastic stuff.

Edit - Just checked, Simmons has a new book out in October. :slayer:

He must puke out a couple of thousand words a day; he releases one or two massive tomes per year.

I just finshed reading Kill Shot by Vince Fllynn. I decided to get into his books a month ago, and started with American Assassin. Going to probably start Transfer of Power tonight.

Read Tenth of December. I was underwhelmed, which was disappointing given how much I liked Saunders' two prior short story collections.

It had its moments, though. This was the best:

Dad had once said, Trust your mind, Rob. If it smells like **** but has writing across it that says Happy Birthday and a candle stuck down in it, what is it?
Is there icing on it? he'd said?
Dad had done that thing of squinting his eyes when an answer was not quite there yet.
