Wedding Attire decision: quick poll

Right all,

First post in an age. Help steer me with some group think:

I'm attending the wedding of some old college friends tomorrow. No dress code specified. I suspect the groom will wear a morning suit. I doubt the rest of the groomsmen will. The couple themselves are not that keen on pomp.

For that reason, plus not really wanting the effort of lugging the gear accross southern england on a variety of public transport, I was thinking of ditching my tails and going for as formal as I could in a lounge suit.

This would be a 3 pc 2b PL Ede and Ravenscoft MTM in not quite as dark as charcoal. Dbl breasted waistcoat, blue/white striped shirt with stiff detachable collar, SF approved wedding tie in silver/navy houndstooth or white/navy/black check.

Now the question:

Should I wear the suit with its self-waistcoat, or should I wedding it up a notch with a buff one (also double breasted)? I can't help but feel it'sa bit sombre without the brighter weskit, but I forget if this counts as acceptably quirky or beyond the pale.

Do tell. Voting enabled.

Contrasting vests with a regular lounge suit is almost consistently lame. I'd go 3pc or no vest at all.

+1

Though personally I'm still looking for an excuse to get some decent Tails. No one I know would ever wear them at a wedding. I even suspect that some might substitute champagne for Red Bull at their weddings

I see it a lot on Mad Men and Yes, Minister and it looks good to me.

Have to support the self waistcoat here. I think you'll look sharp and I'd say the buff waistcoat might be a little quirky if anything. I'd want to see pics to make a better judgement though.

One thing to remember is you don't want to "outdress" or take away from the bride and groom on their big day by your own attire. I like the self waistcoat idea better because of this.

Not entirely unacceptable, though possibly considered a bit fuddy-duddy in some quarters? Not for a wedding though surely?
