I was wearing a heavy vintage wool flannel suit yesterday with a sweater. It's black. I also have a flannel check suit that I wear with a sweaters. Almost never wear the with a buttoned shirt for fear of looking like I just took my tie off.

I would like to do so, but I'll get tired of dealing with people asking why I'm dressed up. Is there a style of suit thats better for wearing casually without a tie, unbuttoned shirt, etc? Stripes or no stripes?

i do it all the time, as far as all the comments from people asking why i am dressed up i assume they are just jealous and sad that they walk around looking like hobos all day

edit: stripes and solids

I wear a suit quite a bit. a cotton suit always looks less dressy....no tie, and loafers.

Wearing a suit like this is perfectly acceptable during the evening time of any weekday; people will assume you've just got off a work and are relaxing at the bar. I'm not really a fan of the look when it's done on purpose though, i.e. at the weekend or to a club.

By the way, what's going on with Tom Ford's cuffs in the first picture? At first I just thought they were open, but I can kind of make out cufflinks.

While I might occasionally do this I much prefer to wear a sport coat when dressing casually. This helps me justify all the sport coat and blazer purchases I have made which I don't wear while working.
