I want some Monkstraps. Found these which I believe are really C&J. And new. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=5366604872 I really would rather have a silver buckle - and a little more style in the shape of the toe. But these should be as well made as about any. Maybe buying from Bennies for $150 / $100 has caused me to lose perspective. Anyway, was this a buy?

Nice. I think it's a good deal. They will look better once they're broken in some.

Yes, good deal. Not an absolute steal, but half what you ever could have bought them new for. Not a purchase to regret at all. I'd like a pair of those Peals in brown.

Fantastic shoes, and an excellent deal. Consider that Ralph Lauren is now selling C&J benchgrade shoes (as the "Benchmade in England" line of Polo shoes) for $500 - $700. Even at full retail, the Brooks Peal shoes are good quality at a sane price point, although I imagine one could pay a bit less for the Alfred Sargent-made Peal shoes.

AlanC, since when are you quoting Freedom (French) in your sig line?

The C&J Peal monkstraps in a buff-shade antique have been (languishing) at the Brooks Bros on Conn Ave for a long time.

I think that is a very good deal. I've seen these shoes in person and I think they are much nicer and more elegant than shown in the picture. I agree with a previous poster that I really love these in brown/cognac. Enjoy them.

Charley,

I wonder if you couldn't have new buckles made in silver brass?

I wonder...does anyone know if this monk is the same one sold in the Shipton and Heneage Premium line. It's been remarked many times on the forum that Crockett & Jones make the shoes for the premium line, and they look very similar, though they retail for $100 less than the Brooks Brothers price. Shipton and Heneage

I have contacted Shipton directly and was told that the Grosvener (brown) is indeed made for them by Crockett and Jones. Any time I've e-mailed them about particular shoes, they have told me who makes the shoes from them.

Good catch, those look to be exactly the same model.
