Start of Wednesday here in Japan, and I’m wearing my recently acquired 93602s. Still have the original soles with v-cleats so I’m skidding along on all the tiled floor areas.

Also confirmed that 9.5E is a much better fit than 9.5D. More competition for wide width vintage shoes. ;)

Happy Wingtip Wednesday, forum pals!

You might want to scavenge from your shoe budget and grab some new socks!

I found what appears to be unworn Wright Nomads in my size. I wore them for a couple of hours last night and they seem to fit well, but could use some conditioner.

I think this is bison. What do you think?

I wouldn't argue with bison. I mean, that your shoe are bison. I wouldn't argue with the live animals, either!

My ears are plugged and my eyes covered. I was on BAT religiously back in the early days before it turned into an auction site. I am a bit of a vintage car nut and I can not afford to get sucked back in with all of these expensive shoes I have been buying.

PS - that's a cool Merc, although truth be told I prefer a 500e myself.
By now its probably obvious I'm an old geezer ,cars I've owned incidentally as daily drivers date cost

That was my Dad's first car. Wish he'd kept it, although truth be told he isn't/wasn't a car guy so probably for the best. Hopefully the "car disease" skips generations since I wouldn't wish such things on my children. My son seems to be more interested in Pokemon than my cars so there's hope!

When people talked about raising teenagers my mom said " Michael stuck his head under the hood of a car when he was 12 and didn't come out until he was 19 and went into the service." Thats when I got to play with some real badass machines.

His socks are great! Especially the emblem stitched on the inside ankle.

Funny, someone made the same comment to similar socks on the boot thread, IIRC. :)

Someone got me on April Fool’s Day when I posted a photo in the black cap toe oxfords thread wearing the same socks — said I needed to wear socks without holes in them, and I swallowed the bait on that post.

These are Brooks Brothers OTC socks and that’s their emblem stitched on the side of the socks.

My parents had the’65 Mustang convertible when I was little. I think they sold it in 1970.

Hi guys:

Off topic but here goes.
1953 Hilman Minx Convertable
1955 Humber Hawk Limousine (don’t ask)
1960’s Austin Mini
1960,s Citroen 2CV x2
1970,s Ford Cortina
1970’s Mercury Marquis Town Car
1970’s Chevy Belair wagon
1980’s Jaguar XJ6
Truck, Truck, Truck
Tahoe,Tahoe,Tahoe +++
2017 Porsche Cayenne

Quick story, when I first came to Canada I did what all immigrants do, I bought the biggest car I could see! That was the Mercury Town Car, at least half a block long maybe more. When the deal was done and coming from Europe, land of high gas prices, I asked the salesman what did it get for mileage? Perhaps the stupidest question he’d ever been asked! He looked at his manager, they both shrugged and said “l dunno!”

Gas was 35 cents a gallon in Alberta at the time! True story.

Yah, I'm not sure what happened. Wasmisterfu seemed to know about the issue from back in the day. If you really want to know, I think it happened just from polishing them with saphir creams and polishes. At the time, I was newer to shoe care and prone to needless polishing. It wasn't helpful, as most of us know. With that said, I really dont think it's anything I did. I take impeccable care of my shoes and they were not stained or exposed to any solvents other than what's in the saphir products.

As an aside, other than this issue, independence line shoes from that time are an incredible value used these days. I find them to be a significant step up in quality from mainline AE. The upper leather and lining are much higher quality. I have a pair of walnut v1 jeffersons from the same time that are terrific shoes. Will post a pic when I have a chance.
I agree about the independence collection. I have the Jeffersons 1.0 (probably from 2009 or so) and they are really nice. I have the Bartlett (2017) and they are still great but the first release of the independence collection was a step up from the second release I think.

Sometimes "Vintage" simply refers to a number of years and many people use 20 as an arbitrary number. But vintage can also refer to a style or material that is associated with a specific earlier time. With that in mind, the split toe Belmont by Allen Edmonds becomes vintage by its leather as opposed to the split toe design. The shark version of the Belmont was released in 2002. This very distinctive shoe is remarkable for the toughness of the shark. To date, I have yet to see a single scratch or scuff on the leather. It seems just tough as nails.

Envy you! Such tremendous a pair of shoes
