I just bought some shell captoes on eBay (my first), what should be my first step in the clean up/conditioning? What products should I use? Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Check out Vcleat.com. Thread member @davidVC has laid it all out for you. And post some pics here when they're cleaned up!

Wipe interior with Lysol or alcohol wipes. Let dry.

Insert shoe trees.

Brush exterior like crazy.

Condition with VSC. Let dry. Brush like crazy.

Some guys use Renomat or rubbing alcohol if the exterior has crap caked on.

Lots of brushing between wears. Enjoy!

Here is one of my Christmas presents from my lovely wife. I hinted pretty hard that I wanted them, and ended up driving two hours to get them, but it is the thought that counts! NOS Prairie Oxhide Dacks with the Anniversary sock liner, so they date between 1984 and 1987. It is getting harder and harder to find them like this.

Been absent (life and opening a store took up some time) but trying to keep up with everyone's contributions. Inspiring as always!

2 acquisitions from yesterday in need of a little TLC:

Polo by Crockett & Jones

And some beautiful Church's. Diplomat style, uses the classic 73 last and (I'm 90% sure) kangaroo leather. Super soft, in great overall shape and the fit is almost perfect for me

I hope everyone had an amazing holiday season and here's to very happy feet in the new year!

I am always interested in the original cost of vintage shoes and seeing how they compare in 2018 dollars. There is a pair of NOS 93602 on Ebay, with construction date of 1977 or 1987. The 93602 ended in 1988, so I assume these were made in 1987. The original box is included and shows the original sales price of $201. The equivalent cost in 2018 would be $444. They sold on Ebay in 2018 for $156. Someone got a very good deal for such a shoe. Working the calculations in reverse order, the 2018 buyer paid $156, which would have been $70 in 1987.

Looks like that might not be the original pricing sticker though...
