Afternoon, gents. Off topic a bit but what would you call this fabric? It's like seersucker but not quite. Appears to be cotton; the care instructions are to machine wash in cold or warm water and tumble dry.

1950s Crosby Square "The Empire" 754
This pair i was sold for a friend quite long time ago when i start searching for vintage shoes (yes a big regret). Luckily he decided to sell it back to me yesterday, he only wore it 1-2 times and has kept it in the corner ever since.

Since new people are always looking at the thread, I thought I would share a little lesson in finding "vintage shell cordovan" on Ebay. The following is currently listed:

At first glance they appear to be in pretty decent shape. The soles and heels, however, tell a different story. Neither are original which means the original owner has put a goodly amount of wear on them before they were resoled.

A check of the tongue shows Made in India, which is usually not good. A search of the 90151 style number turns up nothing on vcleat.com or on shellcordovanmodels.com. Not surprising as a MI India shoe is usually not worth writing about.

Finally, an inspection of the uppers shows multiple fine lines in the folds rather than the smooth rolls of actual shell cordovan. Shell will never develop such fine lines in the crease.

The shoes, despite the headline in the listing, are not shell and certainly not worth the "discounted" sales price being requested.

Here is a pair I have never seen before — at least not until I saw them for sale. They are Florsheim that are very grained brown Wholecuts. I thought they were likely from the 70’s, but they have a tongue pad. I have only seen tongue pads on pairs from the 1960’s (and earlier). Regardless of the date, I’m excited to have found these! I can’t see the style number or date code.

I saw those on vcleat and wanted to grab them but was too late to pull the trigger. Let me know if they don't fit and I'd be happy to buy them second hand. :)

McHales arrived. They are fine shape. But the right shoe squeaks like the front door at a haunted mansion. It’s bad. I think it’s a lose shank. So, I’d have to recraft them, putting these close to $500 before they are ready to wear. Ughhh. Im considering sending them back.

PS. I accidentally posted this in the Late Stage Capitalism thread. Got some interesting comments.

It's been fun but I'm getting myself out of the flip game. Going to find another hobby.
Anyone want this classic 12 EEE for shipping? Mason, fiber insole. Starsky and Hutch?

Happy Hanover Friday forum pals. Time to pull out the LB Sheppard PTBs. This plain toe was not listed at a LB Sheppard Signature in the 1970 catalog, but it eventually moved into that designation. At least that is the label in the bottom of the shoe. Made from "Imperia calf." Not sure what an "Imperia" is, or were they trying for a word that was very close to "Imperial?" I did note they increased the width selection when it made the move as it was limited to C, D and E in 1970 and mine are EEE.

Happy Saturday forum pals. Today I have a trip to meet the other grandparents, see the kids and have lunch. One must not dress like hobo in such situations and my "Golden Harvest" Florsheims seemed like a great choice for today's outdoor dining.
