You’ve gotta have style to actually wear these REAL VINTAGE shoes. We all “love vintage shoes ”, but will you rock them at WORK? Don’t be a punk. Grab those shoes that are styled for “an era long gone” and WEAR them. View attachment 1806070

Haven't run across anything that old in a 13 A, but I would wear them in a heartbeat.

Agree. I went to dinner with my sister tonight. She said,' the 1930s called and they want their clothes back'. I'm not quite that dated style-wise but I did have wingtips, sport coat, and fedora on when I met her. ;) (it's probably the hat)

Yikes. Did you find the shoes with the heel repair or was that something you had done? Either way, they are sadly toast and will not recover.
Found them a local thrift in Hampton Roads (Thrift Store City). I don't quite understand them. From the front they looked in decent condition but saw the crappy repair job in the back and then the cracks. I guess whoever had them liked them enough to attempt some repair but eventually gave up.
The pricetage on the pair you picked up looked like a Goodwill tag. What Goodwill are you making these finds at?
I was visiting Northern Virginia this past week and stopped by a few of the bigger thrift stores in the area. I think I found the shell Ralph Lauren at one called Unique. The larger thrift stores (2A thrift, B-thrifty, Unique, etc) had multiple racks of men's shoes and there were a few nice finds (Rancourt, Alden, etc.). I was actually a bit surprised since I expected the locals to pick them clean. There probably is a lot of rotation.

i am amazed to see the little thread I started nearly 7 years ago is still chugging along to hit 3000 pages and over 3,000,000 reads. I knew there was some interest in vintage, but not to this degree. Thanks to all the posters and lurkers for the good time that was had by all. Carry on.

No one (on SF anyway) has ever liked these old Florsheim Royal Imperials, but I do, so they remain in the rotation.

They fit really well, and have a very soft lining and are very comfy without socks.

The high tongue looks similar to the loafers that @sam67 posted earlier in this thread, so I wonder if, stylistically, they come from the same era. # is 97036, but I seem to draw blanks when looking for any info online.

I like the slender waist:

They certainly look old fashioned. Another SF member once said that they look like Pilgrim shoes, so I assume as in those folks some people associate with Thanksgiving in the US.

Anyway, I still like them.

Yes, they are the ones. I like them, but I was not expecting the purple tones.

It is a fun thread. I’d be interested to know what % of the posts are Florsheim LWB specifically.

To celebrate the 3000th page of the greatest Internet thread, I took the day off from work. Lunch alone. And then some thrifting! I hit 4 thrift stores and found 3 pairs. Even a pair that fit me amazingly well.

1 = Dacks that fit me. These will get rebuilt and are perfect for work. Maybe fully rebuild with GYW, JR soles, etc;

2 = Johnston Murphy Optima;

3 = unknown maker. Possibly John McHale.

Pair 3 looks a lot like a pair of Aldens I once had.
