Incidentally my family are from the USSR. My mother fondly remembers what were either GYW or hand-welted boots that were widely available (though very expensive). Manufactured goods were rare and unavailable, local craft production on the other hand could be bought.

She says that a pair of Trickers boots I recently bought her reminded her of her childhood, so apparently they were capable of quality shoemaking in the region.

Love that! I sincerely hope that my post did not come across as condescending. I know essentially nothing about shoe production from the Soviet Union and allied states from that era. I thought it was an interesting shoe and something that I'd never seen before and was just trying to evaluate the construction relative to something that most of us are likely to have seen.

Anyone else having trouble with USPS tracking lately? I've been noticing that my recent purchases seem to be hanging in limbo. See attached.

We haven’t received mail in 2 weeks, save a few packages that got chucked onto our porch on Thursday.

All the talk of Golden Harvests made me want to wear them. So I did.

I have had a similar experience. Bought something here, and there were no tracking updates for 5 days, from arriving at the outbound NDC until being out for delivery. (The arrival scan at my local PO came around the same time.) Usually there are at least some scans as a parcel travels across NYC to my remote corner.

My parcel was also late, which got me a little nervous. I’m guessing it was just the bad weather.

Oh yeah. There seems to be a postal black hole between Vancouver and Denver. Four months and counting for one package to Denver via USPS.

I opened a lost package inquiry. Miraculously, the boots arrived a day later. Try it.

In December, USPS had a meltdown. I believe at one point, they just gave up. But its been better recently.

This was the tracking for one purchase. It took 10 days to get to Seattle via a strange route. It was "Express" shipping. Louisiana to Tennessee to Mississippi to Illinois to Spokane and then to Seattle. And then once in Seattle, it took five days to be delivered.

Hugo Jacomet still says the best bespoke bootmakers are in the East because they had such experience with the Communist militaries.

Is there a preferred/recommended suede cleaner? I just bought a pair of suede NST. They have some stains on them. I knew they had the stains, but I love the NST and they were a good price.

Any advice appreciated.

I looked at those too. The seller felt that they were wear and would not come out, so good luck. I use the Saphir Omni'nettoyant and I think it's great stuff. I was able to get out some oil stain on my son's boots that he had had no luck with (but he really wasn't using the right stuff anyway). Post your results!
