Hi all! I have been looking at the Viberg 2030 Comipel brown HB and I believe it's a leather viberg just started using not long ago.

1- Does anyone have a pair of vibergs in comipel that can attest to the leather quality, feel, creasing etc?
2. What is the difference between 270 antique flat welt vs stitchdown (maybe a dumb question)

1) Comipel is an odd duck among the horsebutt tanneries. They make a pretty standard veg tan horsebutt. It's just pretty standard, I'm not really sure what else to say about it. It can crease and roll just like all horsebutt. The quality is good, but its not like Viberg is using any horsebutt that isn't good quality anyways. Its a bit stiff like most veg tans, but especially so when lined IME.

2) Antique is a color. A flat welt is a type of goodyear welt construction. For Viberg that is a channeled insole GYW which is a bit of a rarity, but it functions and can be resoled just like any other GYW. Stitchdown is their more famous construction, the uppers are flayed out and stitched through and it comes with 2 rows of stitching. It is a bit more of a waterproof construction and it is a bit harder/more expensive to resole. Especially with the higher SPI of more recent Vibergs. Both the Flat Welt and Stitchdown are 270 degrees in this case. For stitchdown, usually only wedge soles wind up with 360 stitching. For welted footwear it depends on the model, but its more common to see 360 with storm welts, though they have made some 270 storm welts in the past.

@Crizzlelovesyou thank you for the reply, the big thing I was wondering was the antique 270, Just has never heard of it. I figured it was a GYW like the rest but didn't know if there was something drastically diffferent. I've owned more stitchdown than GYW.

Appreciate your thoughts on the Comipel, I have a couple pairs of the Maryam HB and really like the character of the ones I have.

Appreciate your thoughts on the Comipel, I have a couple pairs of the Maryam HB and really like the character of the ones I have.

There will be a lot less character with Comipel. Comipel can pass for a dress leather and is more easily dressed up.

It seems most slippers are 2030 from what I can find. If so, is it safe to size service boots the same as slippers for the same last?

Pretty sure these are on the original slipper last, the 2010

Those are 2010, which is more anatomical than 2030. People usually size down 0.5-1 from their Viberg boot size for that last, but I had a pair at the same size and it was fine.
