On one of Viberg's Instagram posts about this preorder, they say this:

Viberg on Instagram said:
This version of Shinki’s Horsebutt is minimally processed, making the leather more weather-resistant than their Shell Cordovan because the high-shine hides have not been weakened during the tanning process.

It's interesting that they specifically state that. Do you suppose this is any different than the Oiled 4 that @WatchesCars just said water spots?

Nah I don't buy it. Shinki can't make water proof stuff no matter what. There's a maker in Japan that orders the shells unfinished because they do a better job in house of water proofing than Shinki could ever do.

My shinki color 4's have more water spots after 1 day in the rain than any other viberg boot ive worn for 50+ days. Seems incorrect to me because the color 4s should have the same water resistance as these new ones?

Im actually probably going to sell my color 4 shinkis because of the lack of water resistance

Do you guys find the water issue just with the Shinki HB and shell? I have some of the horsehide, didn't notice anything when I went in a puddle out of my car, ha. But if it's a Shinki thing I will be using these as sun boots!

Veg tan in general is less water resistance, but of all of my veg tans, the Shinki is the worst for water spots. I just wear mine on nice days personally.

Well, that's unfortunate but understandable, based on what you're describing.

Yes, most of my veg tan gear water spots. The darker Dublin colors don't seem to show it much, but I don't have enough rain/snow experience with the lighter-colored Dublin Spice boots yet to know for sure how they'll do.

I think with the Color 4's I'll see if they'll patina like my Kasperi bag did. Where I live there's a fair amount of precipitation (far less than Seattle, far more than Las Vegas), so it's just something all my boots and shoes are going to see.

Yeah it should even out eventually, right? Or you can just spray them down if you're impatient? That's what I did with my natural Dearborn Yuketens, now they've evened out.

Mine are just watermarks personally. Happens to the shell as badly as the HB honestly.

I feel like that'd permanently lock in the water spots I already have
