I do not prefer wearing thin socks with my pairs, but it's really a personal preference. I don't have issues with heel slip but I do have a high instep and can have issues in the vamp region. I've gone both ways being sort of in between sizes in the past and I've learned I'd rather go on the big side. I can always add in a leather insert if I need to. My pairs that are a bit snug do not end up getting worn all that often. On the other hand CXL can stretch a little compared to other leathers.

CXL will stretch a bit after some wear as gte872h says, but it's totally up to you. I also prefer wearing at least medium thick socks with Vibergs since the insole/foot bed is pretty stiff.

When you say stretch, it won't stretch as much as a half size without extreme measures right? I think I'm leaning towards the bigger size after reading a bit. Although I'm reading the heel to ball should line up with where the sole wants to bend. Is this just the widest part of the shoe?

Yeah it won't stretch half a size and the flex point should be at the widest part of the shoe.

For those that went, how was the sample sale compared to last year? What did you get?

The sale was good. Way more shell than last year. Maybe 15-20 pairs. I snagged a unglazed navy shell boot. There was also this unglazed shell boot they dipped in indigo vats when they did the haven run. I slept on it for a second and then it was gone. I'm bummed about it. It wasn't marked with a size but I should have tried it on to see....

Had thrown this up over on /r/gyw, but sharing here as well.

Hoping to swing by the sale again later this weekend, but sounds like it was picked over pretty good by the EOD today.

stopped by in the afternoon. nothing of much interest in the 7.5/8 section. mostly GYW and calf stuff. lots of club monaco boon docker rejects and their new chukka style. got to try on some different lasts and styles though. I wanted to like the engineer boots, but couldn't get them on at all. also finally tried on a 310 and definitely not for me. i noticed a new wingtip boot sample which looked decent. also tried on an apsley boot. I like the 320 squared chunky last, but not that boot style. would make for an interesting GMTO.

Sorry for all the questions but are these two things cause for concern of quality? Loose/raised stitch at the end? (Return for another pair?)

Those issues are perfectly acceptable to me. If it bothers you reach out to the vendor you purchased from. Just a tiny bit of glue will secure the edge of the upper back down. The stitches aren't a problem because they are locked in and aren't going anywhere.

I'm away from home right now and haven't had the chance to take pics yet but I received my natural horsehide slippers from Freeman's. They are a bit different from the other slippers released so far. They have a small heel stack with a dovetail heel. Here's a pic Freeman's sent me showing the differences vs the other slippers we've seen. I've heard a few people say the slippers run really big and to size down but I'm glad I didn't since I have a high instep. I took my 2030 size and I can't get them on unless I use a shoe horn, but the fit is good once they are on my feet. The last is based off a modified type last and has that general shape. It might sound weird but I like the horsehide leather in the sense that they will crease fairly prominently in the vamp. I think they will look much better after they darken with wear and break in.

'Came by late afternoon ... yeah, pretty much picked over on my size that were non-2030.

Still, 'managed to come away w/ a pair of Engineer #8 CXL on 2005 and an old standard 2-tone Lace-to-Toe on 110 [w/c was prolly my best find ever, @200].

Like the Hoppers [initially], had to use the aid of a plastic sheet to slide in, due to my high insteps. But, I'm confident they'd be spot on @SU1/2.

Can post pix when I get a chance ...
