Hey everyone... I've lurked on here for a while, and have learned a lot, but I am now stuck with a dilemma I can't seem to figure out on my own.

I have a friends wedding in Istanbul this summer at the end of July. It's going to be an evening wedding, and as a member of the bridal party, I am required to wear a tuxedo. The groom has offered to purchase the groomsmen tuxedos, but with a max budget of $250. I am not in favor of this plan (He wants to shop at Macy's!), and I want to purchase something for myself.

So here are my issues:

1. I can't stand the humongous arm holes on suits in general. I would like to find something with more fitted high arm holes. If I have to raise my glass for a toast, I don't want the whole damn dinner jacket lifting off me.

2. Peak lapel.

3. I'm typically a 44S in almost everything (a few odd European brands may be different). I prefer the shorter jacket because my torso is short, and a jacket the ends mid thigh makes me look even shorter than I am (5'7").

4. Is there such thing as a lighter weight wool for a tuxedo?

5. Anyway to spend less than $700 for all this? I have to buy a plane ticket to Istanbul after all...

I was looking at this: http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/royale-tuxedo-tuxedos-p-246.html

It seems to be ok, but I don't have any experience with this brand. Any thoughts?

Oh, and I'm in NYC, so while I know there are a plenty of options in my area, I don't know what they are.

Thanks in advance. I appreciate any and all help.

I suggest you provide your own tux. Don't let someone else choose a cheap one for you.

I see great tuxedos on eBay all the time. In fact, I've picked up 4 in the last year at less than 20 bucks each, and given them to friends. So many people buy brand new tuxedos, wear them once, and then foolishly sell them on eBay for a pittance. Their loss is our gain.

Thanks... I'm definitely going to buy my own. Any feedback on Suit Supply or Magnoli? They seem to be in my price range, but I don't want to pay more for a crappy tux.

Suit Supply is half-canvassed and generally decent quality. The biggest issue seems to be getting a good fit. Their stuff is often cut slim and short. This might be good for you, as you are looking for a shorter jacket and high armholes. If their stuff fits you, it is a good garment for the price. Just don't let the ridiculous pictures of the models on the website deter you.

You mean I won't look like the guys in the pictures if I get the suit? Sort of 5 O'Clock shadow-ish?

I was commenting about the fit of their suits. They are wearing already-slim-fitting suits 2 sizes too small. Some on this forum use these pictures as a reason not to buy Suit Supply suits. If you have the build for it, and get something in your size, you will look fine.

I was just messing around... I guess I'll have to go in and try one of their suits on as I am not the most slim fellow. Do you have any other suggestions either online or in the NYC area?

You could probably do MTM for about $800 or so. I have used LS Men's in NYC with good results.
