Trench coats - Only when it's rainy?

I have an actual overcoat, so if it's overcoat weather, then I wouldn't wear a raincoat. If it's the kind of temperature where a raincoat over a jacket or suit would be comfortable, I might be inclined to just grab a heavier suit or jacket. If the day demands something over that exact warmth, then I will go for it.
