With all of the tradly battles raging for a Wangsquare, I came across this article in the NYTimes...

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/06/fa...pagewanted=all

What's the difference here? Is the prep look sort of a larval trad, waiting to emerge from its smug chrysalis of entitlement into gloriously aristocratic indifference?

Also, reading the article, I found that each and every one of the patrons of this bar were the sort of people who would benefit from being keelhauled.

That's my take on the difference, but I'm usually careful not to publicize my opinion lest I offend some friends over on AAAC. Seriously, you're being a little harsh, but I think the spirit is right.

If you post this on AAAC, worded slightly differently, they can write for pages and pages about the subtle differences that only those born into Trad-dom would know. Have you searched on AAAC? I recall many threads on the "prep" look.

Mr. Cleary was perched at the bar on the restaurant level on a Thursday night with a Gaffel Kölsch beer in his hand.
I lived in Cologne (the home of Kölsch beer) for 8 years and it's one of the worst & cheapest brews in Köln. Yet it's name-dropped in this article as if it were something exotic?

Go to Ask Andy About Trad!

To me, preppy is a more youthful, "go-to-hell" sub-category within trad.

mainstream trad = repp tie, white ocbd, grey flannel pants, more conservative look
preppy = pants embroidered with crabs, ties with critters, madras...

the real prep look is trad like ...but the stuff you put on is wrinkled..and you look like a total mess

you can wear pink pants and a blue blazer and trad tie but if your a real prep and go to a prep school it wont be neat
