I recently picked up a v-neck sweater on heavy discount from Charles Tyrwhitt, but when I put it on over a tie, you can just see the tie through the fabric. It drives me crazy.

Are there any sweaters you guys use with ties where this doesn't happen? I'm assuming it's a quality issue. Doesn't need to be cashmere, I like merino wool.

Sorry for the odd-ball question...

Sounds like a fabric weight problem. Buy a sweater that's thick enough to actually matter when you wear it.

+1. Your sweater may be of good quality but just light weight fabric.

Can you guys recommend any go-to sweater brands that are heavy enough? I've heard mixed things about BB.

you can still use light weight sweaters if they're dark in color (medium brown or darker)

A lightweight sweater in a dark color would work better. BB BF sweaters from a couple of seasons ago work well with ties due to the thickness of the cashmere.

Like most things on SF, a pocket square and a pair of Vasses will solve the problem. How you execute that is up to you.

My solution to this is tucking the tie through the front of my shirt, military-style.

It might not just be the thinness of the yarn, but the looseness of the weave. You can't see anything underneath my Scottish-knit cashmere sweaters.

It's not a question of brands, necessarily. One maker can have both heavy and light, or as

notes, tightly or loosely knit, sweaters.

When I clicked this thread, I thought that the title (presage) was, "Tit shows through sweater."

Since I was wrong, I'm forced to give this thread teh UberFoo.
