My father does not think highly of the brand & a search has not turned up much other than vintage movados that some of you own. I know most are battery powered which I assume why my father disaproves.

I'm interested in the movado museum: stainless, automatic, gator strap.

I've also noticed a varying price range online. Its roughly between $650 and $1500. The movado store sells it for $875. Obviously I want the lowest price, but from a reputable dealer, so I prefer to buy from the movado store.

Can anyone offer tips on how to negociate a lower price?
And your opionions and experiences with the brand are appreciated. I'm looking to purchase in the next 2 weeks.

I actually purchased one on Amazon.com. The week before I bought it online I was in Geneva; compared to the prices you could pay in Switzerland for the same item, Amazon is quite the deal. While Movado doesn't have the pedigree of other Swiss watchmakers, it does have an unmistakably elegant minimal aesthetic to it.

As far as opinions are concerned, I feel Movado has become something of a mall brand targeted at the mass affluent. It's widely available, over-exposed, and a bit too familiar. Their advertising attempts to counteract this by trading heavily on the fact that one of their watches is part of MOMA's permanent collection.

I think they're nice watches, but overpriced for what you get, spend some time at timezone.com. I also have a large number of watch sites linked from the right side of my blog that you might find helpful. Bounce around the sales forum of timezone.com for a while to see what catches your eye.
