I've always thought of "expansion of current line" and "releasing entirely new diffusion lines" as different things.

For example, Marc Jacobs has a vast array of products in his mainline Marc Jacobs line. But he also has Marc by Marc Jacobs, a diffusion line. TB is expanding is mainline, as stated, but is he releasing a Thom by Thom Browne style line? No.

The OP is referring to the report of 2 extra diffusion lines being released.

No, he decided to "hide" the lower priced items within his mainline but there's definitely a mix that reeks of diffusion. I guess he thinks it's better for his image that way but I mean, much lower priced/constructed diff items should mean a separate line. Pure bullshit.

These are new days in retail and fashion. I think successful designers will need to experiment with prices and collections to see what will work at retail and appeal to new consumer values.

I do believe that the smart ones will have some affordable items available within their lines to keep the average guy interested.

I also like his "champagne and potato chips" as a nod to the reality of the economy even though many still want some luxury and fashion.

It sounds like he is making some smart decisions.

from a wine-o's point of view, champagne and potato chips is actually a great combination. Popcorn is another.

The retail for his Black Fleece line has been reduced tremendously for this season. A similar move for items in his mainline doesn't surprise me.
