Thom Browne before there was Thom Browne:

Note the shrunken coat, narrow lapels, piping and skinny tie. Even classic clunky glasses.

It's Jack Benny guesting on Liberace's TV show.

Whatever you think of Browne's aesthetic, it seems to me that those pieces fail completely to fit within it...

It's Harry Winston. How could it be expected of him to NOT use diamonds?
It is interesting to see that given the requirment to use jewels what he came out with (in terms of his own design philosophy).
I actually like the watch. It would be interesting to see it in person to see if it is a "duller" pave compared to something very blingy like Jacob & Co.
I will say that the prices do restrict the client base to a very small group (narrow that down and there might be only 1 or 2 of his own customers in that group) that is willing to buy a $15,000 money clip or a $90,000 ring. If you read the article they are wanting to capture the man who comes in to buy an exquisite piece for a lady so that he too can have something grand to buy.
Why Thom Browne? I cannot say. But, I would stake a guess that had they picked someone like John Galliano or Karl Lagerfeld that we might have seen something very over the top. HW wanted something restrained; but, still using jewels that would be appealing to more than the Saudi elites or Russian oil barons. Short pants and some runway styling aside Thom Browne has a very simple and basic design philosophy.
Also, I don't care who you are; but, when a brand like Harry Winston comes to you offering you to design a small jewelery line you don't say no.

You could argue that those are not in the iconic Harry Winston design aesthetic as much as the one's Thom did are not within his own.

So why are we women for thinking this is a ridiculous ad? He's in an incredibly tight suit with short shorts showing off his lycanthropic legs. The diamonds look even more ridiculous than normal on him.
It's ******* hilarious. Lighten up Francis.

It's not an ad. It is what they shot of him in Wallpaper Magazine.

I'm just joking because you sound like a bunch of Marys talking about someone's hairy legs. I'm sure all of you have tight, toned, tan swimmer's legs.

No I wouldn't say that. HW in the horological world has been redefined by the Opus series. No watch collector would have been caught dead with a HW watch before Journe, Halter & co rejuvenated the horological credibility of the brand with their special editions.

I one way, you could be right. The watch buyer that will rush to buy a TBxHW watch is likely not the same as the Opus buyer - just like the fashionistas who buy his suits don't really care about fine garments, construction, etc... They just want to wear a trend

Perhaps Thom is doing it for the support Harry Winston is giving him.

. . .

If I recall the article correctly, Thom said he saw his customer as the husband of the woman who comes into the store. He wanted his customer to have something for himself that his wife would be proud to have him wearing. In other words, no one would actually come into the store looking to buy the stuff (no surprise there) but the passive guy dragged in by his wife could pick up something for himself at the cash register that still meets with her approval. Thom wasn't contemptuous of his customer, but he was close.

I hope you have someone special who will drag you in his wake to Harry Winston so that you can give Thom some extra support. If not, perhaps you will get special dispensation in light of your previous support and be let in by yourself.

Good luck!

While I missed the chance to comment on Thom's legs, I think it is pretty obvious that Thom wants to be talked about - otherwise he wouldn't have dressed like a jackass for the photoshoot.
