I quit smoking in 2002. (I had been a 2.5 pack a day smoker.) I hardly ever even think about smoking anymore, but every once in a while, I feel like it's time for a cigarette. That feeling usually only lasts a split second, but I've had that feeling now for a couple of minutes. It's very strange.

My sister died in a car crash today in Virginia, she was only 27 and was set to graduate law school in May. I don't understand why this had to happen, it's so unfair. Of my siblings, she was by far the most promising, intelligent, etc. I just don't get it. Please pray, or meditate, or think good thoughts for our family as we fly in from all over the country to be with one another. And if there is anyone in your family you haven't talked to in a while, make a point to call or email them and tell him/her you love 'em.

jeezus… no words can say how saddened I am to hear this. Life is so short and so precious and can change in an instant. upthewazzu, your post has literally brought tears to my eyes and I do pray that whatever spirit or higher power you look toward will provide you strength and guidance in this trying time… Love and prayers to your family.

my colleagues, people who know better than to smoke but still do, always always smoke after eating and presumably after going to the bathroom. They like to do it in packs (like women in restaurants going to the ladies room or coyotes howling).

sometimes I'll be outside getting some "fresh air" or coming in from a quick errand and I'll see these content packs of smokers and I swear they flash me dirty looks to shoo me away from joining in on their conversations.

Costa Rica is in Central America.

I remember having my mind blown in middle school during south american history and realizing that their andes mountains are the same andes mountains as ours!
