I know I read that quote and realized GSU, historically one of the worst-performing athletic departments in all of D-1 athletics, has fared better.The real reason is because Brown sports suck.
"The Bears had accounted for just 2.8% of Ivy League championships in the decade prior to the 2017-18 academic year, prompting the review."

recruiting budget, facilities, staff, equipmentHow does increasing spending on some sports help when the players play for free? It isn't like going out and picking up an expensive free agent.
Apparently one of the tricks is: someone takes you (athlete/recruit/whatever) to dinner and is like "I've paid for this, you just enjoy yourselves a little while longer after I head out." A few minutes later a waiter comes by and says: "Here's your change."recruiting budget, facilities, staff, equipment
Plus at the big schools, athletes get additional perks from the school that aren't talked about like free video games and vouchers to eat at nice restaurants.
