This is almost certainly the case. So many times people try to play things off with "tHaT's JuSt My iNterNet PerSoNa I'm NoT ReAlLy LikE tHiS in ReAl Life" but I think many people grossly underestimate how much of their true personalities shine through over time when posting on a forum.
