Man, I'm pretty heated, don't know where to start.

Okay, so I've been going to the same dry cleaner for years now, usually for laundering my dress shirts and suits. On occasion I would have them hem my pants, no serious alterations.

So a few weeks back, I bought my first pair of Incotex pants (beautiful) and I took them there to have the waist taken in and the bottoms hemmed. Fine. So the day I go in to pick them up, they tell me that while in the process of taking the waist in, they somehow put a hole in the pants and had to restitch them.

I was upset, but i was basically going to take them anyway, but THEY offered to pay the price for replacing them for me since they ruined them. Okay.

So when I tell them how much they cost (110), the whole vibe changes and they immediately ask for proof of price. So I go get the receipt and bring it back to the store, and they write me a check.

The problem now is every time I go in there I'm reminded of the pants, or I'm specifically asked if I need alterations done so they can reject doing it, or I'm just given a ****** attitude.

What am I supposed to do with this, do I need to find a new dry cleaner? It's bothering me.

Yes, go somewhere else. No need to put up with unprofessionalism.

I think you should have:

a) Accepted the f*d up and didn't take the refund and continue going there (probably getting reductions on a few future alterations
or
b) Take the money and change alterations.

Personally if there was a bit of an altercation about the value of the trousers - I wouldn't have gone in there again once they had given me the cheque. As it stands now - I'd probably change dry cleaners.

Why would they expect the pants to be much cheaper? $110 is fairly reasonable. Even BR pants can be $90.

I just put about 10 shirts and my only 2 suits in there to have them cleaned.

So basically after I pick that stuff up, it's over I guess.

I thought I was doing the right thing by continuing to go there, by not writing them off after one mistake. I've been going there for at least 5-6 years, I just didnt feel right giving up on them like that.

The pants were brand new, I still had the tags on them. Now I have to worry about getting a place like you're talking about. What a mess.

It sounds like they are the ones giving up on you. It is their responsibility to cultivate the relationship, not yours. I agree with everyone else, you should find a new cleaners.

Are you so lacking dry cleaners in general that you are willing to put up with this ****?

You are the customer so why put it with it?

You are very lucky they paid you for what the pants cost you. Most drycleaners have policies that they will only pay a specific amount above what they charged you for their services on the article of clothing.

Edit: One second thought, I'm guessing you paid $20 or more for the alterations, so you might not have exceeded the payout from a "normal" drycleaners.

And yes, they are being jerks about it.

Go somewhere else - if they can't gracefully accept the error of their ways then time to part company.
