The Stitch Success System:

Lose a bit of weight
Add better photography
Buying spree of quality goods
Implore gdl et. al. for advice
Assuage enemies with consistent cheerfulness

Or, simply, LABIA.

Well, you have know what you are buying and what is useful and what isnt, and what works with your style and what stuff goes well with other stuff, but buying better stuff with better knowledge always gives you a leg up imo.

And yes, I have an excellent tailor to whom I owe a lot of credit.

I think knowledge trumps all regardless of how much better an item is. You need to have knowledge about fit and style in respect to yourself before deciding on buying.

I just think OP gave more weight to the actual items, which I think is very untrue. You can buy the best of everything but have no clue and look really silly. Another example is like talking to multiple tailors and figuring out which has the best handwork and who can also fit to accommodate your body type.

Or another way of putting it is like chasing brand names and being ignorant

It's not your imagination. Stitchy has been on a major kopping spree, and he's weeded out just about everything that is sub-optimal.

This statement sort of bothers me. You give false hope to a lot of people when you make such a bold statement. You can't just go on a kopping spree and buy the best things... actually that statement is totally false in what it maybe implying.

I think you also have to give the tailor some credit

You've inferred a lot here. His kopping spree was well considered, and he purchased clothing cut to flatter him. Yes, with requisite tweaks by his tailor, but that tailor was also tweaking his other stuff. And, as I said, he weeded out the sub-optimal stuff. "Sub-optimal" describes items which didn't fit well, which didn't work well with the core of his wardrobe, and/or he no longer liked.

You actually can just go on a kopping spree if you've spent the time to figure out what works for you.

Jacket details please? I need that baby. Thank you in advance.

It's a gray wool Valstar Valstarino Blouson/Jacket. It was available via forum affiliate No Man Walks Alone. Not the easiest to come by and not sure this particular one is available anymore, but it was also made in a blue and brown colorway at the affiliate site.

dorje - thanks!

toasty - i do not disagree with that, and i doubt SB does either. and still, if you have 2 dudes with equal knowledge and one guys goes and buys new stuff based on that and another does not, ostensibly, the first guy will have improved more than the second guy.

i think he was just saying that over the past year i honed in on my style and fit and purchased new stuff based on that, and the knowledge i have accumulated since joining, and have purged the old stuff from my wardrobe. which is an accurate statement.

edit - SB beat me to it.
