Pardon my ignorance, but in watch terms is this an UMC collection of shoes? I need a frame of reference to appreciate this shoe Appreciation.

It’s an amazing watch. I WILL miss it. But I much prefer wearing the 5-digit Pepsi, so yes, the redundancy bothers me (and again, I didn’t think it would, but…). It’s also about redundancy in relation to what I want to get next…

I’m taking the hit, but found the optimal price via greys, so still coming away netting well above retail.

You know, it’s interesting that you are getting rid of it because a personal friend of mine is going through the same thing with his BLNR. He just finds that he never wears it - in particular, he favors his 6 digit sub and 5 digit Explorer II.

To be clear, I really do love the BLNR. But I now have multiple watches that basically fulfill the same function, that I prefer wearing. This is also a specifically social matter relative to my region and lifestyle, insofar as the BLNR seems to draw one sort of watch-bro attention, while my Pepsi and GP draw a different sort of attention, from a different crowd. At this point in my life, I prefer the latter. Don't get me wrong, tho! I'm still down with blingy d-bag watches (hat tip to Neville), but my next blingy d-bag watch will be full gold, so I'm also sort of clearing the way for that too (one without an occluded 7 if I can manage...)

I found myself reading/consuming Hodinkee's editorial content during Watches & Wonders the last two years. Their coverage was pretty good this year.

It's easy to poke fun but I'm happy for the guy who turned his hobby into a business. Like many readers, I lost a bit of interest when it pivoted into an e-commerce site but he seems to have made enough hay while the sun was still shining. He stepped aside as CEO at the right time, just before secondary market prices tanked. Now he gets to saunter around with a single buttoned chambray shirt, hang around with Lenny Kravitz, the least known spiderman and collect vintage patek's and 911's.

There was a weird dynamic in 2021 where you would make more as a founder raising a growth equity round and selling secondary than you would outright selling the co.

Basically the valuation spreads became very wide and VC was wildly overpaying.

So I’m sure he cashed out nicely, especially since IMO it’s a very mediocre business.

Without getting into details, part 2 of the story which I'm witnessing from a semi-close seat is the VCs legally going after whichever of the people who did this, look like they have some net worth (why squeeze a stone dry after all). Investors are not totally without rights on 100m+ rounds that go wrong. So just as people about to start their MBA buy luxury items to clear their bank accounts before the Harvard admin takes a look at them to determine their qualification for a scholarship, the game here is to make sure you immediately spend your secondary "earnings".
