The sad story of French clothing

In France, (where I live), wearing even a blazer will get you a strange look. A three piece suit will get you alot of stares. It's the sad truth, no one under 40 in France wears even just a shirt. No, the style is Jeans pulled down to your hips (no, I am not joking), exposing a good 30% of your undergarments. Mostly accompanied by Shoes designed for skating, a T-shirt with some intelligent slogan such as "F*** your mother", and maybe a cap worn backwards.

Dissapointing.

I don't know where you are in France, but I was in Paris this past April and I saw nothing like what you described. Granted, I did not see anyone in a three-piece, but plenty of decent looks and many suits.

You thought France might have been the well dressed exception, to what's happened with clothing in the rest of the world? Sorry to disappoint.

I'm sure most French under 40 are going to be wearing exactly the same Gap, Nike, Reebok and New York Yankees baseball caps as everyone else.

France is to men's fashion as N. Korea is to liberal democracy. Ignore French men and concentrate on the women . . . style-wise, of course.

Cross post from funny picture thread...

You mean they don't dress like this anymore?

What a load of crock. The French hardly dress any worse than other Europeans. Rather the contrary.

Sadly, that doesn't say a lot for today's Europe. But then, under 40's in the US are hardly sartorial shining stars either.

Yes...where do you live because I highly disagree. I've lived in France, have a significant number of French friends, and my girlfriend is French. We see none of what you allude to.

I lost a tremendous amount of respect for French fashion standards when on my my most recent trip to champ d'elysees I saw a 45 minute line to gain entrance to the Abercombie and Fitch store.

Then you are to be commended, sir, and held as a splendid example to your peers. Carry on, that man.

I live in Paris. I am under 40. I wear a three-pice suit about one third of the time. Although I recognize very few people do, I don't get any stare.

I think this also depends on where you are in the city. If you're in the 7th, 8th, or 16th eme, it is significantly more common than in say, the 10th....
