Your stuff always looks perfectly coordinated.

    Discussion and question about same:

Don't you have a guide somewhere that explains how to do this? I mean something like "patterned jacket and patterned shirt means solid tie, . . . and other options."

What about for someone that rarely wears a pocket square? I wouldn't mind the pocket square with all the other stuff if I am dressing for dinner or theatre or a night out. But, I am not sure I would wear a pocket square to court (unless it was just a simple white square folded straight and barely peaking out of the pocket). I think many Judges and Juries here in Kansas wouldn't appreciate it. I know one lawyer here in town that has a reputation for dressing a little too fancy (in the eyes of the community). But, its part of his schtick or persona. All he does is high profile DUI and Criminal defense. He has some amazing suits. You can tell from across the room his suits cost more than my car. BUT, he wants every one to know that, so his choices are never subdued. They are just a touch too flashy. Combine that with BIG hair and too much jewelry and he is almost a caricature. Of course, he is a Caricature that laughs all the way driving his Bentley all the way to the bank. So, I guess it works for him!

    That would be me :)

You were very hard to buy for but after doing some intel from a few members here and reading your post, I knew I had to drive up there to get you some beer you probably can't get out there in MA. Cheers!

I think it comes from many things. A few of those could be:

    - Taking cues from others. Looking at photos (current or historical), Brand "lookbooks" or mannequin displays in stores. Seeing various style / clothing discussions here and on other websites/etc. Also just seeing other dudes on the street - Seeing what looks good or bad on them, and seeing how things mix and blend in real life.

    - Experimentation. Wearing different things, trying out new patterns / colors / textures. Over time, you get a feel for what "works" in general... But more importantly you figure out what you really like and what you think looks good for/on you.

    - Evolving as we age. Over time, every man develops his own personal style... and that's usually always changing and evolving. That may be because of trends or influences, or just may be personal tastes changing by themselves. Personally, I've moved from tailored CM stuff into more casual workwear / streetwear / classics.

As for pocket squares... I would say that you don't want patterns to be too competing / contrasting, but also don't want everything to match or be bland. In Spoo's photo, his pocket square subtly incorporates colors from the other pieces... Navy (tie), Red (shirt). There is also additional color / pattern there to add some visual interest, but not so much as to be too "busy".

    Just my thoughts.

Spoo can obviously answer this better than I can, but I basically learned the rules for getting this stuff right by reading a few great threads on SF. On my phone so can't easily find links, but the Whnay Good Taste Thread is one. You want to read Manton, Foo and other long time posters giving you their views.

It's about combining patterns that don't clash in scale or density, textures and colours in a complementary way. Nothing too matchy or clashing under any of these headings. Basically, Spoo's outfit above is an exemplar.

Then once you've got the rules down you can have real fun breaking them.

Edit: pretty much as Letric said!

StyFo's own Urban Composition wrote a good pattern mixing guide on his Tumblr awhile back. http://urbancomposition.tumblr.com/post/133608928383/complexity-in-pattern

Shoutout to @jdrizzy for my Thriftmas box! Zegna suit, Zegna and Kiton ties, two pocket squares, and a VERY thoughtful hand-rolled handkerchief with my initials!

    Thanks, man!

What size and price? If a medium/not huge large, I'd be very interested in a proxy.
